NEW WORK– DERWENT

Just before 2012 had come to an end I was commissioned by Derwent to use their willow charcoal to create an illustration that showed a range of techniques within a realistic depiction of a bird.

We decided on a crow which would allow both fine detail and bold strokes to exist throughout the piece which features in their 2013 Product Catalogue.

GHOSTS OF GONE BIRDS– SWANSEA

The Ghosts of Gone Birds will migrate to Swansea, Wales towards the end of this month with a pop-up print exhibition.

It's great to see a cause such as this reach my neck of the woods and support the art scene in South Wales. If you are able to attend, please do, I am sure there will be an array of visual treats that help raise awareness of beautiful specimens which are sadly no longer with us.

BOOK– 1000 PORTRAIT ILLUSTRATIONS

A few examples of my portrait work have been included in the recently released book '1000 Portrait Illustrations' from Quarry.

The book contains an eclectic mix of portrait work produced by creatives working today and is arranged into categories that best classifies their approach to the work. I was very pleased to see the level of talent in this edition from established names to some I have only just discovered. If you are interested in portraiture then this book is well worth looking at.

Thank you to the editor Julia for thinking of me and including my work in the publication.

INSPIRATION– THE MAKERIE STUDIO

Sometimes when you least expect it there is some talent out there that will make your jaw drop upon witnessing their creations. This kind of work needs to be celebrated and shared which is the sole purpose of this blog post.

I was sure that the opening of the Ghosts of Gone Birds Part III in Brighton's ONCA Gallery was going to be a night filled with incredible work and good company. However, I was not expecting to be greeted with what can only be described as an outstanding piece of paper sculpture hand build by The Makerie Studio. (Unfortunately my poor photography skills don't do this any justice.)

The Makerie Studio is formed by Julie Wilkinson and Joyanne Horscroft who as you can see produce wonderfully detailed sculptures for a range of personal and commercial clients. With an impressive client list I feel a little ashamed for not coming across their work sooner. If you have the chance to visit the gallery this piece will be there until the show closes on 31st January.

I look forward to seeing more from these two in the future and suggest that you take a look at their website.

GHOSTS OF GONE BIRDS– 'HUIA'

After a wonderful opening at the ONCA Gallery for the final chapter of the Brighton edition of the 'Ghosts of Gone Birds' exhibition here are some detailed shots of my contribution to the project.

If you are able to make it to Brighton before the 31st of this month I strongly suggest that you pay the gallery and the exhibition a visit which holds a great variety of artwork produced by both emerging and established artists.

However, if you are unable to do so you can see the full image of my Huia bird by following the link to my website below.

A big thank you to Chris and Laura for the opportunity to be apart of this exhibition!

GHOSTS OF GONE BIRDS– PRIVATE VIEW

I couldn't think of a better way to bring in the new year than to contribute to a project such as 'Ghosts of Gone Birds' which has the third installment of the exhibition in Brighton's ONCA Gallery this evening.

Before I closed the studio doors for 2012 I was asked to complete a never before seen piece depicting one of the species of bird that unfortunately no longer exists.

In addition to the wonderful pieces that adorned the ONCA gallery since the initial opening in November tonight will give those of you who may have been unable to make it to the show a chance to see what has been on display and much more.

Hopefully I'll see you there!
