SEB LESTER– NEW RELEASES

.....................................................................................................................................

Today the incredible Seb Lester released two prints, 'The voice of all the Gods' and 'Do not go gentle' both of which can be seen in the short film that Seb has created to accompany the work.

Drawing upon his passion for calligraphy these latest pieces are saturated with beautiful execution and the wealth of knowledge that Seb has gained. All his practice with letterforms has clearly paid off although I don't think that many of us will be able to show the same penmanship when adding this to our Christmas list.

Both prints are available to buy from his website which has also had an update– take a look!

NEW WORK– '21'

.....................................................................................................................................

Here is the finished outcome of a recent personal commission intended as a birthday present. The recipient I am told is pretty fond of watches and this was something which needed to be subtly present throughout the piece.

It was a great opportunity to practice and push myself in terms of image construction and typographic swashes.

Special Commission

.....................................................................................................................................

A little peak at an unedited personal commission that I recently created for a friend to give to a couple on their wedding day.

It's great to play with the elaboration seen within the piece, something which I will get to do again in the next commission.

NEW WORK

.....................................................................................................................................

It has been quite a while since I have posted new work, in an attempt to make sure that everyone is still aware that I am creating illustrations I thought that I would include the above piece.

The photograph is poor and is meant to capture a recent typographic piece given as a gift to someone special in my life.

I hope you enjoy what you are able to see and I'll try to get more work up soon!

TYPOHOLIC FROM VICTIONARY

.....................................................................................................................................

I was fortunate enough to be asked to contribute to this beautiful book from Victionary titled 'Typoholic' which came through the post the other day.

My Alphabet can be seen next to a number of excellent pieces of work from top creatives that makes this book a hub for inspiration and well worth a look.

For those of you who are a little partial to my Alphabet, it is currently being shown in it's entirety at the London office of CHI & Partners and can also be purchased as a limited edition print from my online store.

Good trip!

.....................................................................................................................................

This post is quite a personal one but something that I wanted to share.

Two of my flat mates recently moved out to start their travelling adventure, and as a part of their leaving party I thought that I would make them a banner as bit of a surprise.

It was a great excuse to practice some script embellishment and to do something special for two people that I care about deeply.

Best of luck Marc and Agustina!

ORIGIN COLLABORATION 02 - PETER CRAWLEY

Continuing from the previous post the second creative I have collaborated with for 'Origin' is the fantastically intricate Peter Crawley, another talent whose work has astounded audiences everywhere (please see link below). Together me and Peter were able to find a way to subtly combine our approaches to image making based on our love for the analog method of illustrating. A big thank you to Peter for his time and effort.

Again, if you want to see what was created you'll have to wait until 'Origin' opens on Thursday 6th October at the exposure Gallery.

ORIGIN COLLABORATION 01 - POMME CHAN

One of the key reasons for naming my show 'Origin' was to try new things and generally experiment in order to develop my work. With this in mind I asked some of my favourite image makers to collaborate with me and as luck would have it they agreed.

The first was the exceptionally talented Pomme Chan, who I am sure needs no more of an introduction (just incase there is a link to her work below- you will not be disappointed!). Together me and Pomme created a little something that has completely opened my eyes in terms of approaching work. The whole experience was an absolute pleasure for me, a big thank you to Pomme for her time and generosity.

As for more of a sneak peek? I am afraid you'll have to wait until 'Origin' opens on Thursday 6th October at the exposure Gallery.

This Thursday brings the private view of the AOI Images 35 exhibition, a show that I am delighted to be a part of. My alphabet piece was selected to be a part of the exhibition where I will be in very good company indeed. The exhibition is open to the public from 26th August - 2nd September 2011.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

HAND MADE TYPE

I was pleasantly surprised on the weekend when looking through some lovely books in Foyles and found one of my pieces that I contributed towards Charlotte Rivers's 'Hand Made Type'. An early type experiment can be seen in one of the 'gallery' sections, showcasing various pieces of work.

The book is a good source of inspiration for those of you who enjoy all things type related and there are some tutorials by a number of creatives that should help the creation of many new pieces.

REPETITION: 'AND'

Continuing my promise for this week here is the second installment of the Repetition series, or the fourth most used word in the English language. As you may have guessed by now I have taken inspiration from wooden printing blocks which remains apparent throughout this body of work.
