NEW WORK– SWAN LAKE

.....................................................................................................................................

Above is my contribution to the Pointe Blank 'Swan Lake' exhibition which is currently running at the Milkwood gallery in Cardiff.

The portrait tries to highlight the transformation that the princess of the folk tale undertakes when daylight disappears and she can return to human form.

The exhibition will run until the 8th October as a part of Cardiff Design Festival before appearing at Birmingham's Eye Candy Illustration Festival.

For more detail photographs take a look at the project on my website via the link below.

DIE ZEIT

.....................................................................................................................................

I am currently working on a couple of projects whose deadlines are quite some time away which means that I haven't been able to update my portfolio as frequently as I would like.

With this being said I thought that I would share this previously unseen portrait of Andreas Baum I created for the German publication Die Zeit back in 2011.

Hopefully I'll be able to share some progress shots of the new pieces that I am currently working on soon.

WALLPAPER*

.....................................................................................................................................

I was commissioned last month to produce the contributors illustration for the wonderful publication Wallpaper*. The brief was to incorporate the portraits with a napkin in order to highlight the theme of entertainment for the December issue.

I really enjoyed doing this one and it is great to see it in print.

Photos of the original sketch can be seen on via the link below.

ORIGIN AT AIS

.....................................................................................................................................

This Monday morning brings some fantastic news about the future of Origin. After it's stay at the exposure Gallery I am happy to announce that the show has now moved to the office of one of London's top advertising agencies, Archibald Ingall Stretton.

At AIS I have chosen to display selected pieces from the Origin exhibition, which will rotate to keep the walls fresh and reveal my other pieces created specifically for the original event.

A big thank you to Paul at AIS who has made it possible for the show to continue, unfortunately I don't think it's possible to visit the exhibition without an appointment as the pieces are in a fully working environment.

ORIGIN DATE AMENDMENT

There has been an interesting development in the future of my solo exhibition 'Origin' which means that instead of the show finishing on Monday 31st October it will now end on Friday 28th October 2011. I will announce what the future brings for the show shortly, but in the mean time this is the last week to view the exhibition at the exposure Gallery.

ORIGIN REVIEW

My apologies for bit of a quiet week on the blog, it can only mean that I am creating things that I am looking forward to sharing soon. However, I came across this review of my solo show 'Origin' the other day and thought I would share it.

A big thank you to Anna from Arts Thread who attended the private view and for the kind words about the show. To read the review please click on the link below.

ORIGIN PRIVATE VIEW

Last Thursday brought the opening of my first solo exhibition titled, 'Origin'. I am still pretty much speechless from the turnout and all the kind words I received, it's hard to believe after around three months working as hard as I could the time finally came to share it all.

The limited edition postcards and free beer went a great deal earlier than I expected but the fantastic set from Trevelyan Jones seemed to retain people's interest in staying at the gallery.

A massive thank you to the exposure Gallery, Trevelyan Jones, Handsome Frank, Roy Richards, Claire Scully, Pomme Chan, Peter Crawley, Creative Review, Ty Nant, The Celt Experience and to everyone who attended and supported me.

The show will be at the exposure Gallery, 22-23 Little Portland Street, London, W1W 8BU for the month of October. Opening times are Monday-Friday 10am - 6pm.

ORIGIN COLLABORATION 03 - CLAIRE SCULLY

The third and final collaborator for 'Origin' is the fantastically gifted Claire Scully.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with her work there is a link below that I strongly suggest you look at. The great aspect of Claire's work is that she has a number of ways of approaching an image, but there was a particular style that I liked. Together we were able to create something that made us both happy.

(Little did I know before starting my part it would be the piece that took me the longest to complete out of all the work created for 'Origin'.)

A big thank you to Claire for her time and effort.

If you want to see what was created you'll have to wait until 'Origin' opens on Thursday 6th October at the exposure Gallery.

Here you can see a portrait that will be featured in the show which has never been seen, I can't think of a better way for you all to see it first.

A great issue with an interesting story behind the front cover.

ORIGIN - TREVELYAN JONES

I am delighted to share with you the artist I have booked to play at the opening of 'Origin', Trevelyan Jones.

Jones is one of London's best upcoming singer/songwriters who can be seen performing his rendition of country/folk and blues all around the big city. Known to captivate his audience with his moving voice and delicate guitar lines be sure to catch his acoustic set on Thursday 6th October at the exposure Gallery.

If you would like a little sample of what is to come please the links below.

ORIGIN - TY NANT

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that my upcoming solo exhibition 'Origin' will have all Welsh sponsors. Being proud of where I come from I really wanted to have Welsh companies involved in my big event.

Have you ever tried Welsh water before? Or wondered what the award winning bottle shape looks like in the flesh? There will be a supply of it at the private view of 'Origin' at the exposure Gallery on Thursday 6th October thanks to Ty Nant.

A big thank you to Ty Nant for the help and support.

To celebrate that today marks the three week countdown until the opening of my solo exhibition 'Origin.' I thought that I would start announcing surprises and give sneak peeks of what you are going to see on Thursday 6th October.

MARC JACOBS

I know I've been a bit quite folks on making posts, as previously mentioned this is due to the new pieces for my upcoming solo show that I am dying to share with you. But all in good time.

As for now, how about an editorial I did for the German magazine ZEIT? There are more detailed shots on my website and flickr.

Hope you enjoy.

BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS

The title of this blog post I feel is the most accurate to describe this piece. Pictured above is not only my first painted portrait titled, 'Reflection' but my entry for the National Portrait Gallery BP Portrait Award 2011.

I can honestly say that this painting really pushed my abilities, there was even a point where I thought that this would be something that I would have to put on the back burner while I practiced using acrylics. I persevered and luckily got the result that I was hoping for, the piece even made a trip to Wales with me in order to put the time in to get it ready for the designated hand-in day.

I now await the judges decision as to whether my attempt will make it into the exhibition, I assure you I'll be keeping everything crossed.

1189 x 841 mm

My next self-initiated piece is for an exhibition towards the end of the year that I can't say too much about as of yet. A particular point of interest about this piece is that it will measure 1189 x 891 mm (A0). I have always wanted to draw something at this scale but the length of time taken to complete something of this scale is often impossible to fit into deadlines. However, I feel that this occasion calls for something special.
